Finding Balance

Finding Balance

Poetry, Aug’2015 [print]

I remember when I was a freshman searching for all the answers, now I’m a senior and I’ve learned so much. It has been rough but worth it.

Freshmen, I would like to call your attention to this poem to remember why you chose your major, why you went to college, stay determined. Just keep striving for the best and be yourself.

Dear freshman,
Beautiful girls and
Handsome boys
New to this lifestyle,
There are trying times ahead
You will learn, grow,
love, and even hurt.
Don’t go berserk.
You’re still figuring it out.
You may not know it all
But one day you will.
Prepare yourself for that day
Because it’s coming your way.
Find balance in your social life
And leave the back stabbing knife
behind.
College is not the place to bs.
Make friends but pay attention
People will talk at the mention
Of your name.
But this is not a popularity contest.
Be careful of your reputation,
It can lead you to self-fortune
Or negative fame.
Find balance with your academics
Don’t forget that’s what you’re here for.
To learn and master a skill for more
opportunity.
Find balance to shape your individuality.
Join a student organization and find yourself.
Create a home away from home.
Make this place your sanctuary
Because you have at least 4 years to be
In attendance.
Most importantly, find balance within yourself
And remember that when you want to give up…
No matter how hard the rain falls
Or the wind can blow
That after the storm
Is a rainbow
